How will you spend a good weekend this time? For most people, the same question pops up as every Saturday and Sunday draw near. Imagine however that you no longer need to fuss about your weekend activities because someone else plans something special and different for you every other week. Wouldn’t it sound wonderful? Believe it or not, but that is the case with the happy followers of two special event organizers, a PhD student of philosophy for one, and your everyday white-collared guy who happens to love Kung Fu for the other; Derek and Look. These boys who happened to share a childhood of school life together, happened to grown up loving and sharing the same single hobby of never-ending exploring and planning of fun activities for large groups of facebook friends in Hong Kong they hardly know. “Not doing it for fame or money”, they say, but sheerly for the ideals of spreading joy in ways to make sure Hong Kongers break out of their comfort bounds to experience life.
For two years, they have been organizing every kind of activity, ranging from night-time hiking, snorkelling, war-games to secret cinemas, and even special Halloween-styled hide-and-seek for a group size of people that goes beyond the number of 50. If you happen to be one of the participants, this might just be another happy weekend of fun and fulfilment for you. But for the organizers themselves who specialize in the “making-of” these interests must be personally involved in every step of the stages from planning, coordinating, renting locations, buying and preparing event materials to finishing the chores and wrapping up accounts and expenses, one just might have to question: what is it that these organizers find to be so worthy of their efforts and how are we to understand the kind of joy that seems to drive these endeavors?

星期六、日有什麼節目?週末臨近,這是很多人都會提出的問題。試想想,如果有人專程為你安排好每個週末有各式各樣的活動,那是多麼幸福的事情呢?
Derek是哲學博士生,阿Look從澳洲完成雙學士課程後回港,在一間跨國公司任職客戶經理,平時愛打功夫。他們是小學同學,好朋友,還有一個共同的嗜好,就是在週末為朋友,或者是朋友的朋友安排林林總總的消閒活動。他們不屬於任何團體組織,不為名,不為利,只求一份不能言喻的滿足感,以及各自人生不同的體會。
他們一攪便攪了兩年幾時光,活動範圍非常廣闊,行夜山、浮潛、 野戰(War Games)、戶外放映會,Derek是哲學博士生,阿Look甚至是一班人扮鬼扮 馬到公園玩捉迷藏也有。雖然沒有正式的宣傳計劃,但每次參加人數動輒四、五十人,一大棚人浩浩蕩蕩出發, 在香港不同的角落渡過一個愉快的週末。
參加當然容易,嘻嘻哈哈一天便過去,但負責攪活動的Derek和阿Look卻總是忙得不可開交,事前又要天馬行空構思活動,又要做聯絡、申請場地、購買服裝道具等籌備工作,事後又是領隊又是阿四,完結後又要整理帳目,收拾物資,到底是什麼令他們一直堅持下去呢?他們的付出能帶給他們快樂嗎?
