בדצמבר 2010 נמצא אסיר מת בכלא איילון. שמועות ודיווחים עמומים על קיומו של "אסיר X" – אדם אלמוני שהוחזק בבידוד מוחלט בגין פשעים לא ידועים – החלו לצוץ, אך צו איסור פרסום גורף הוטל על הפרשה, וגם על עצם קיומו של הצו. זהותו נותרה בגדר תעלומה במשך שנתיים נוספות, עד שתחקיר של ערוץ טלוויזיה אוסטרלי חשף שהאסיר העלום שהתאבד בתאו – היה אזרח אוסטרלי וסוכן מוסד.
