Hinako Sakuragi lebt in einem ländlichen Teil Japans und ist nicht gerade gut darin, mit Menschen zu kommunizieren. Dies soll sich jedoch ändern und so entscheidet sie sich, nach Tokyo zu gehen und dort eine Oberschule zu besuchen, wo sie der Theater-AG beitreten möchte. In Tokyo angekommen, muss sich jedoch schnell feststellen, dass ihre Unterkunft ein Secondhand-Buchladen ist, in dem ein Mädchen wohnt, das Bücher isst.

Born and raised in the countryside of Japan, Hinako "Hina" Sakuragi gets anxious easily when she talks to new people—so much so that she resembles a stiff scarecrow. To overcome this, Hina hopes to get involved in theater, inspired by a play she saw during her school's field trip. So, Hina moves into the Hitotose Manor in the bustling city of Tokyo to study at Fujiyama High School, aspiring to join the school's renowned theatre club. But to Hina's dismay, she learns that Fujiyama High's theatre club has been on a lengthy hiatus. Having already come to Tokyo and enrolled in the school, Hina is at a loss for what to do next. Sensing her disappointment and eagerness to learn theatre, Chiaki Hagino, the landlady of Hitotose Manor, encourages Hina to create a troupe with the residents of Hitotose Manor as its members. This story follows Hina as she begins a new life in Tokyo attending Fujiyama High while learning the ropes of theatre with the support of her friends along the way.

Hinako a du mal à communiquer avec les autres car elle a grandi dans un milieu rural où elle ne voyait pas grand monde. En attendant, elle habite dans une librairie de livres d’occasion où vivent d’autres pensionnaires : Kuina, qui adore lire et manger, Mayuki, plus âgée mais petite et excellente cuisinière, sans oublier Chiaki, la gentille propriétaire. Hinako arrivera-t-elle à sortir de sa coquille ?

Hinako ha difficoltà nell’esprimersi e di conseguenza a socializzare. La ragazza decide di prendere di petto il problema e si trasferisce, da una zona rurale del Giappone, nella capitale con il proposito di iscriversi al club di teatro del suo nuovo liceo cittadino. Al suo arrivo scopre che lo studentato in cui vive è una libreria che tratta testi usati. Lì incontra una ragazza che è affetta da picacismo o allotriofagia, un disturbo del comportamento alimentare caratterizzato dall'ingestione continuata nel tempo di sostanze non nutritive (terra, sabbia, carta, gesso, legno, cotone, etc.), la coinquilina nello specifico mangia i libri.

부끄러움이 많고 말주변은 없으나 동물들에게는 이상할 정도로 사랑 받는 특이체질의 소녀 히나코. 사람들 앞에 서면 허수아비처럼 멈춰 버리는 자신을 바꾸기 위해 동경하던 연극부가 있던 고등학교에 진학하게 된다. 시골에서 성장한 히나코는 도쿄에 있는 고등학교 진학을 계기로 하숙을 시작하지만, 연극부가 현재 휴부 상태라는 충격적인 사실을 듣게 된다. 결국 히나코는 같은 학교에 다니는 하숙집의 다른 소녀들과 함께 소극단을 결성하여 나름의 활동을 시작하는데...

La protagonista es Hinako, una chica que es mala con las palabras. Ella se muda a Tokio llena de entusiasmo para entrar en el club de teatro de la preparatoria y aprender cómo hablar con la gente. Sin embargo, por alguna razón la casa en la que se muda es una tienda de libros de segunda mano. Como si eso no fuera poco, también hay una chica muy hermosa comiendose un libro como si fuera lo más sabroso del mundo… Esta comedia teatral sigue la vida de estos extraños pero maravillosos personajes mientras trabajan en su obra de teatro.

女主角櫻木雛子在緊張的時候會變成一個稻草人，不擅於講話的她為了想在夢想的藤宮高中加入演劇社、變成一個健談的人而下定決心前往東京唸書。但不知道為什麼她寄住的地方居然是一間舊書店，而那裡居然有個把書本當美食吃的美少女？此時雛子也得知了此學校的演劇社已經廢社，此時萩野千秋提議成立一個小型四人的劇團。
