Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi are about to take the stage at the 2024 ASB Polyfest in Tāmaki Makaurau. We also meet the leaders of the kapa as well as some of their very colourful tutors.
With Polyfest done and dusted and after only a 10 day break in between campaigns, Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi are now focussing on the Kura Tuarua Kapa Haka Nationals in Whakatū.
Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi kapa have the day off so some of their tutors can perform in the two ngahau teams Hoani Waititi Marae has put together for the Tāmaki Senior kapa haka Regionals. The keyword here is ‘ngahau’.
As kaitātaki of the kapa, Te Rangihoua and Merekara are tested to take their leading to the next level. With lots of support wrapped around both of them, the hope is that they can pull through and do their best to lead their kapa to victory.
It’s crunch time and the pressure is at an all-time high in the camp with only days left until the team fly’s out to Nelson. To add to the pressure, the kapa are trying to beat a 15 times back to back top drop record.
Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi arrived safe to Whakatū and are taking the stage today. Everyone is good spirits and well rested however the pressure has really set in for some of them as they are the current reigning champs!
A spot in the finals was achieved and now the team have a chance to take things up another level. On the day, finals prep runs relatively smoothly until the tutors are faced with some unexpected drama that could affect the team taking the stage.
