Meredith okamžitě začne litovat svého úletu s Georgem, a ten uteče z domu k Burkeovi s Cristinou, kteří ho u sebe nechají. Cristině se Georgova přítomnost znelíbí hned ráno, když se vrátí Burke s Georgem z běhání. Společně si dělají snídani, mají zájem o stejné věci a hlavně Cristinu neberou vůbec na vědomí… Meredith se Shepherdem ošetřují pacientku Sylvii, které zbývá jen pár týdnů života, jelikož má nádor na mozku a všude kde dosud byla, jí řekli, že jí nemohou pomoci. Shepherd je ale jiného názoru: je přesvědčen, že operace by se mohla podařit a společně s Meredith se snaží Sylvii k operaci přemluvit... George společně s doktorkou ortopedie Callie se stará o pacienta Heatha, který má zlomený prst. Zdá se, že jejich pracovní vztah se mění v cosi víc... Izzie s Alexem se zase starají o Dennyho, který má velmi nemocné srdce. Izzie začíná k Dennymu cítit víc než jen vztah, pacient – lékař. Alex si její náklonnosti všimne a řekne Dennymu, že má s Izzie vztah. Dennymu se Izzie líbí a zeptá se jí na Alexe. Izzie popře, že by s Alexem něco měla…

Dr. Bailey erscheint zu ihrem ersten Arbeitstag nach der Geburt nicht alleine. Sie hat ihren kleinen Sohn mitgebracht, was sich schnell als hinderlich bei der Arbeit erweist. Ehe es sich Cristina versieht, wird sie zum Babysitten abkommandiert. Izzies Patient Denny läuft die Zeit davon. The doctors are up to their necks in their usual levels of drama. Meredith is dealing with the backlash of sleeping with George, George and Burke are bonding in ways that bother and creep out Cristina, Cristina gets stuck on diaper duty, Bailey gets involved in a case even though she's still supposed to be on maternity leave, Addison and Derek have a talk, and Izzie is still flaking on Alex for Denny Duquette, the heart patient who didn't get a heart. In the patients-of-the-week department we've got a very pregnant woman, a hockey player who desires medically unnessasary amputation, and a woman with a fork in her neck who happens to be dying and has a struggling marriage.

La dr.ssa Torres continua a fargli una velata corte e lo coinvolge nelle cure di un giovane studente amante dell'hockey che chiede che gli venga amputato un dito ferito per poter giocare la partita più importante della sua vita. Intanto, Alex, sempre più geloso delle attenzioni che Izzie rivolge a Denny, fa intendere all'uomo che la donna è già impegnata con lui scatenando, ovviamente, le ire della stessa Izzie. Meredith e Derek provano ad essere amici, anche se lui nasconde la cosa ad Addison che nel frattempo è lusingata dalle attenzioni del marito di una puerpera che la paragona a Catherine Deneuve. Cristina, intanto, fa da babysitter al figlio della Bailey. Meredith si confida con Derek e lui le consiglia il da farsi. Una coppia di sposi che cerca di salvare il loro matrimonio fa riflettere Derek sulla sua parte di colpe riguardo il fallimento del suo matrimonio.

Os médicos estão com o nível de sofrimento acima do normal. Meredith está lidando com as consequências de ter dormido com George, George e Burke estão se unindo de um modo que irrita Cristina, Cristina se cansa da obrigação de trocar fraldas, Bailey se envolve em um caso mesmo sabendo que ela ainda deveria estar de licença maternidade, Addison e Derek conversam, e Izzie ainda está ajudando Alex com Denny Duquette, o paciente cardíaco que não conseguiu um coração. Tras haberse acostado con Meredith y la cosa no salir bien, George se va a vivir a casa de Cristina y Preston. Addison Shepherd ha de ocuparse de la familia Gibson ya que la sra Gibson presenta una rotura de membrana prematura a los 7 meses de embarazo pero su marido queda prendando de la doctora Shepherd ya que cree que es tan bonita como Catherine Deneuve. Bailey ha tenido que llevarse al bebé al trabajo ya que su marido no está en la ciudad y la guardería estaba llena. Ante la llegada de un paciente al que debe operar inmediatamente será Cristina quien se encargue de cuidar al bebé. Meredith Grey ha de encargarse del caso de un matrimonio en el que la mujer aparece con un tenedor clavado en el cuello. Mientras George y su nueva amiga se encargan de un joven jugador de hockey que se presenta en el hospital con un dedo totalmente retorcido y con fracturas al querer jugar sin guantes y enredarse en una malla.
