In the early hours of June 17th, 2011, Craig Finney went to ex-girlfriend Patty Harker's house with a shotgun after seeing her leave a bar with Benjamin Shimmin. Finney in a jealous rage kicked open the door to Harker’s home and fired one shot through the bathroom door where Shimmin was hiding. Finney shot Harker in the back as she attempted to flee. Before fleeing the scene, Finney shot himself. He was apprehended in Missouri by police the next day. In order to avoid the other charges, Finney plead guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. On April 25, 2013, Harker died from complications caused by the gunshot wounds and Finney was charged with first-degree murder. The jury found him guilty of a second-degree murder charge, carrying a maximum prison sentence of 50 years.
