Coffee was born in Ethiopia when a shepherd noticed
his goats jumping around wildly after eating coffee
berries. Or so the story goes. What is certain is that
the word coffee comes from Kaffa, a region in Ethiopia.
The leaves and dried berries were initially infused in
hot water in a similar way to tea. It was only later,
when coffee reached the Ottoman Empire, that it was
prepared in a way we would recognise today. Great
Inventions explores all aspects of coffee growing
and appreciation.
