He defeated Ozeki Kotozakura and Hoshoryu and earned promotion to Ozeki after just nine tournaments since his debut. While young rikishi took the spotlight, 34-year-old Nishikigi stood out with 11 wins, earning his first Fighting Spirit Prize. Sumopedia reflects on the career of former Ozeki Takakeisho, who announced his retirement after this tournament.     Ozeki Onosato has won two consecutive tournaments and earned promotion to Yokozuna. He reached the pinnacle of the sumo world in just 13 tournaments since his debut—a remarkably rapid rise. We take a look back at the path of this newly promoted Yokozuna. For the first time in about four years, both East and West Yokozuna will be competing together, a situation last seen in the autumn tournament of 2021. The July tournament is packed with highlights, including the top-division debut of Kusano, Fujinokawa, formerly known as Wakaikari, and the newly promoted Komusubi Oshoma—young and fast-rising rikishi who are sure to draw attention.
