In this episode, we're exploring a box of Elvis' acetates with Angie Marchese, Graceland's Vice President of Archives & Exhibits. Acetate discs are a type of phonograph record that were widely used from the 1930's to 1950's for recording and broadcast purposes. Unlike ordinary vinyl records, acetates were made for special purposes like comparing different takes or mixes of a recording. If pressed vinyl copies of an impending new release were not yet available, acetates were used for getting preview copies into the hands of important radio disc jockeys.
