Seth bestellt sich eine "Universal-Fernbedienung". Er findet heraus, dass er damit nicht nur Fernseher bedienen kann, sondern auch die Welt um sich- nerven ihn die Eltern, stellt er sie auf "Standbild" und sie sind ruhig. Eines Tages fällt die Fernbedienung runter. Es scheint was kaputt gegangen sein, denn plötzlich funktioniert sie nicht mehr- die Eltern stehen als "Stilleben" im Wohnzimmer. Seth repariert trotz Warnung die Fernbedienung selbst- erstmal mit Erfolg. Nach diesem Erlebnis beschließen Seth und Kevin, das "Teufelsding" wegzuwerfen, Seth holt es aber wieder aus der Mülltonne....
Seth Gold is sick of being ordered around by his sister, his mother, and his father. His hobby is channel-surfing, so he orders a remote from a company in a magazine. One day as Seth is riding home from school, he checks the mail and the remote came and is inside. Running inside the house to open it, Seth notices it can also be used to change the radio station. He then decides to watch TV, when his sister Jamie comes in to practice her tap-dancing. As a joke, Seth presses the Pause button while aiming the remote at his sister. His sister actually pauses! Seth now realizes this new remote can control more than just the TV.

Adaptación de la serie de libros Tale to Give you Goosebumps en la que Seth Gold ordena por correo postal un control remoto que controla a su televisión, su videograbadora, su estéreo... y toda su vida. La película Click (protagonizada por Adam Sandler) tiene un argumento bastante similar a éste.
