어느 날, 길에서 시신이 발견된다. 사망한 사람은 ‘제이’. 수사관K(하석진)와 같은 미래 시대의 수사관이다. 그의 사망과 관련된 단서는 단 하나, ‘오버월드(가상 세계)’. 수사관K는 ‘뉴로커넥트’를 착용하고 가상 세계로 들어간다. 그곳에서 또 다른 가상 세계로의 진입 경로를 발견하게 되고, 가상 세계 속 가상 세계로 들어가게 되면서 충격적인 현장을 목격한다.
