In the year 200X, Doctor Rando, a genius scientist gone mad, has broken the peace on the Earth by trying to conquer the world from his Polar base, using an army of his Metal Beasts, super robots developed by him to conquer the world and led by his genetically created officers. No regular weapons seem to work against the Metal Beasts. To combat him, Japan's Defense Agency request the cooperation of NISAR, the Japan International Aerospace Corporation, which has developed a robot, the Getter Robo. Dr. Tachibana, the head of the Getter Robo project, is reluctant to use the robot for battle. Despite this, Getter Robo, piloted by Go Ichimonji (later joined by Sho Tachibana and Daido Gai), is able to defeat a Metal Beast with the sacrifice of Shinichi, the son of Dr. Tachibana. This prompts the improvement of Getter to make it a transforming machine piloted by three persons, capable of defeating the Metal Beasts and stopping Dr. Rando from conquering the world.
Nell'anno 200X il dottor Randow attacca l'umanità con dei mostri meccanici con lo scopo di conquistare il mondo. Le armi comuni sembrano essere inefficaci contro questi esseri di metallo e per questo è stata richiesta la collaborazione della NISAR, un organizzazione che ha recentemente sviluppato il Getter Robot. Nonostante sia stato progettato a fini esplorativi, il super robot si rivelerà molto utile per sconfiggere le bestie metalliche inviate dal dottor Randow, le quali, però, diventeranno via via sempre più forti, costringendo i nostri eroi ad apportare sempre più modifiche al Getter Robot.
かつてロボット工学の権威として学会を騒がせていたプロフェッサー・ランドウが、凶悪なロボットであるメタルビーストの大軍団を率いて世界征服を開始した。これに対し防衛庁は、宇宙開発研究を行っていた橘博士に協力を要請。博士が作業用に開発したゲッターロボにメタルビーストの撃退を依頼する。だが、ゲッターロボは平和利用のために造られたもの…。武器など搭載していないし、これからも搭載するつもりはない。戦いを前にして迷う橘博士。だがパイロット訓練生の一文字號、大道剴、メカニック部門のチーフで博士の娘・橘翔は、この緊急事態を放ってはおけず、進んでランドウ軍団に立ち向かってゆくのだった。
200X년, 천재 과학자인 랜도 박사는 자신의 극지방 기지에서 세계를 정복하려고 노력하여 지구상의 평화를 깨뜨렸고, 그가 세계를 정복하기 위해 개발하고 유전적으로 창조한 장교들이 이끄는 슈퍼 로봇인 메탈 비스트의 군대를 이용했다. 어떤 일반 무기도 금속 야수에게 불리하게 작용하는 것 같지 않다. 이에 맞서기 위해 일본 방위청은 로봇 게터 로보를 개발한 일본국제항공우주공사 NISAR의 협조를 요청한다. 게터 로보 프로젝트의 책임자인 타치바나 박사는 이 로봇을 전투에 사용하는 것을 꺼린다. 그럼에도 불구하고 고이치몬지(쇼 다치바나와 다이도 가이 가이가 합류한 선수)가 조종한 겟터 로보는 박사의 아들인 신이치의 희생으로 메탈 야수를 물리칠 수 있다. 타치바나. 이를 계기로 게터가 금속 야수를 물리치고 랜도 박사가 세계를 정복하는 것을 막을 수 있는 세 사람이 조종하는 변신 기계로 만들기 위한 개선이 촉진된다.
