El G.E.O. fue la unidad encargada de la operación policial que cercó a los miembros del grupo yihadista en un piso de Leganés y que se saldó con el suicidio de ocho terroristas y la muerte de un miembro de la unidad.
On 11 March, 2004, Spain suffered the first Islamist attack in Europe with the explosion of several bombs on the regional trains at Atocha in Madrid. The G.E.O. was the unit in charge of the police operation that surrounded the members of the jihadist group in an apartment in Leganés and resulted in the suicide of eight terrorists and the death of one member of the unit.
