由雨宫庆太担任原作、导演的《牙狼〈GARO〉》系列作品，是自特别篇《白夜的魔兽》之后五年来首度于电视播出。总制作费约10亿日圆。而本片是在实际拍摄完成（除后制工程外）之后才开始播出的。 在本片制作记者发表会中，即已先声明登场人物包括主角与搭档戒指等第1期登场的人物，并涵括特别篇与电影版出现的角色都会在本作中出场。 在电视播出之前，先于2011年9月24日于シネリーブル池袋等全日本五家戏院上映。2011年9月24日起为第1～3集、10月8日起为第4～6集、10月22日起为第7～9集、11月5日起则为第10～12集。 另外，原题中的“MAKAISENKI”汉字应作“魔戒闪骑”。
