We follow ladies man Max, 18 from Nottingham, loveable Forrest, 18 from Luton, glamorous Anita, 20 from London, horse loving Abbie, 19 from Essex, hip hop performer Jay C, 18 from London and daddy’s girl Bayleigh, 18 from Colchester as they embark on the most exciting and significant three years of their lives. Flung together with a bunch of total strangers in a new city, far away from home and forced to look after themselves, the freshers face a complete culture shock. Even for the most confident person, the first weeks can be a challenge, changing their behaviour to try and fit in with a diverse mix of people, how will our intrepid newbies fare? From the unparalleled highs to the unexpected lows, freshers will explore the daunting reality of university and just how hard it can be out there in the big wide world In tonight’s show we see them leaving what they know behind as they travel to their new home. It’s their first day and as they settle in to their new surroundings we follow them as they meet new friends and experience their first night on the town.
A catch-up with students Forrest, Max, Bayleigh, Anita and Abbie - who last year said goodbye to Mum and Dad, learnt to cope on their own and partied their way through Freshers' Week at the University of Bedfordshire. Cameras followed the young adults as they faced the daunting prospect of working out where they fit in, carving out their own identities and coping in an entirely new environment, as well as learning how to balance their work, study and social lives. The show now goes back to find out how they got on. Did they manage to stand on their own two feet? Did they find friends or maybe even love? Did the five of them even manage to stay the course?
Following a brand new batch of students at Swansea University as they make new friends, learn how to fend for themselves and party their way through a manic two weeks at the start of term. In the opening programme, the teenagers say an emotional goodbye to mum and dad, childhood friends and familiar home towns as they move into their new homes in Wales's second city. Feisty politics undergraduate Chloe gets lots of attention, but soon proves she is no pushover, rugby-mad James from Crewe hurls himself into the party scene, and super-geek Michael struggles as life away from his mum spells one domestic disaster after another.
Would-be Army officer James feels the stress as lectures begin, Jake's tangled love life takes a further twist, and Amelia finds the temptations of a wild paint party too much to resist. Plus, with money worries mounting, Chloe gets a job dancing in a bar, and physics-mad Michael hunts for the girl of his dreams.
Party animal James must try to forego alcohol to prove he has what it takes to get into the Officer Training Corps. Jake and Fin unite in their love of music and take the Swansea rock scene by storm with a gig in town, while Amelia returns home and reveals the extent of her partying to her mother. Chloe is excited to be reunited with her boyfriend after two weeks apart, and Michael hopes to win the heart of student nurse Megan by taking her on a date to a medieval battle re-enactment.
