From Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, to a small town in Uganda, best friends Lila Fischer, a midwife, and Hannah Kahl, a community activist, adjust to local ways and come to feel at home as they work with maternity centers near the South Sudan border. Lila and Hannah share the enriching experiences gained during a planned six-month stay, but for one of these young women, that plan will take a different direction.
