Patyomkin, standing guard at the Tsarina's coffin, offers his life to Grand Duchess Catherine. Patyomkin is moving up the ranks quickly. The tsar is behaving more and more insanely, and because of this the guard is preparing for a mutiny. After Peter is dethroned and exiled, Catherine becomes Tsarina. Peter is killed under mysterious circumstances by Orlov's men. Katalin swears that she had nothing to do with her husband's death. Orlov, who is jealous of Patyomkin, wants to marry the Tsarina. Katalin is trying to curb corruption and put the country's administration in order. There are many rumors about Katalin's private life, who is paying more and more attention to the late Patyomkin. The jealous Orlov beats his rival to death.
