Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald, Green Beret captain, is accused, then cleared, in the brutal murders of his wife and daughters. He retires from the Army and heads west, while two CID officers, and Jeff's father-in-law Alfred "Freddie" Kassab, find inconsistencies in his account and determine to investigate further.
