Das Verhältnis zwischen Amy und dem Rest ihrer Familie ist noch immer höchst angespannt. Als Tommy bei einer Sportveranstaltung ihren Bruder Bright anspricht, um die Sache aus der Welt zu schaffen, kann dieser sich nicht beherrschen und schlägt zu. Damit brockt er sich jedoch nicht nur eine Suspendierung von Unterricht ein, sondern gefährdet auch seine Uni-Zulassung.
Während Andy sich nach wie vor scheut, seine Gefühle für Linda offen auszuleben, wird die Bindung zwischen Ephram und Madison immer enger. Da Madison sich aber noch immer nicht mit ihm in der Öffentlichkeit sehen lassen will, kommt es schon bald zum Streit. Unterdessen bekommt Dr. Brown es mit dem 15-jährigen Gavin zu tun: Um sein Kampfgewicht als Ringer zu erreichen, ist der Junge zum Bulimiker geworden. Dr. Brown tries to intervene when a bulimic high school champion wrestler (guest star Douglas Smith, Gregory Smith's brother) puts his life in jeopardy for an important tournament. Bright is suspended from school after he fights with Amy's boyfriend Tommy (Paul Wasilewski). Linda Abbott suspects that that Andy is reluctant to move their relationship to a more intimate level because of her HIV status. Finally, Ephram is convinced that college student Madison is embarrassed to be seen with him.
Andy Brown est très heureux de sa relation avec Linda mais semble toujours trouver des prétextes pour garder une certaine distance dans leur couple, ce qui commence à agacer sa compagne. Ephram, lui aussi, rencontre des problèmes dans sa relation avec Madison car celle-ci a du mal à faire face aux rencontres en public et hésite à présenter son copain à son cercle d'amis alors que lui, à l'inverse, l'exhibe comme un trophée.
Come per Ephram è difficile stare accanto a Madison senza che sia lampante la differenza d'età tra i due, così per Amy è difficile stare accanto a Tommy senza che la famiglia, e soprattutto Bright, continui ad odiarla, tanto che tra lui e Tommy si scatena una violenta rissa che si conclude con la sospensione di Bright e la possibilità di non essere accettato più al college. Anche Andy ha dei piccoli problemi con Linda quando, durante una discussione, finisce accidentalmente per pronunciare il nome della moglie scomparsa.
Linda teme que Andy no quiera intimar con ella por poseer el VIH. Ephram se da cuenta de que a Madison le avergüenza que los vean en público. En lo laboral, Andy trata a un adolescente bulímico.
