On Monday 6th July 1992, the sun rose on BBC Television's first ever Mediteranean soap opera. Set in the purpose-built Spanish village of Las Terrazas and Los Barcos and centred around the multi-cultural residents, Eldorado took up its regular Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights slots on BBC1, promising sun, sand, sangria and of course, sex ... And it wasn't only the Spanish scenery which was colourful. With bad boy Marcus Tandy and his on/off girlfriend Pilar, bar owner Joy and singer Trish, not to mention Gwen and her whisky-loving husband Drew to name but a few, there was certainly plenty to gossip about right up until the programme's demise on Friday 9th July 1993. This special BBC video recalls some of the programme's more memorable moments. It includes Marcus and Pilar's first meeting at his stables, the death of local doctor's son Javier and the subsequent revelation of Freddie's secret life, the attack on Joy - not forgetting Drew's splash in the pool! All this and much more, from the soap's much discussed year of life. So sit back and soak up the sunshine once more as we say "Adios Eldorado" ...
