When the kindly doctor that founded the hospital and gave Doctor Hudson a position there is taken ill, the board of directors vote for Hudson to take over.
En route to doing an important operation, Hudson and his staff's train is delayed by a sudden flood. He's asked to help out with local victims, including a hysterical woman who's lost her baby. Drama is increased when a dangerous convict being taken to prison escapes in the confusion.
A young man is brought to Central hospital in a coma. After tests are done, no reason for his condition can be ascertained until it's established he's the son of a San Francisco millionaire, and he's married a callous, gold digging chorus girl who can't be bothered to stick around. Hudson then determines the man's a malingerer.
