The arrival of one of Tommasi’s old friends, Luca, re-awakens the captain’s student spirit and makes the sergeant jealous, as if he’s been put aside. Don Matteo finds himself consoling Cecchini and sheds light on the investigation of an attack made on a military officer.

Intanto, l'arrivo di Luca, un vecchio amico di Tommasi risveglia lo spirito goliardico del capitano e solleva le gelosie del maresciallo, che si sente messo da parte. A don Matteo che ha già un gran da fare con le indagini toccherà anche consolare Cecchini!
Don Matteo findet Sergeant Emanuel Iorio schwer verletzt in dessen Haus. Seine Frau Sonia, die verstört neben Emanuel sitzt, wird von der Polizei festgenommen, da sie ihren Mann verdächtigt hatte, eine Affäre mit einer Kameradin zu haben und somit Eifersucht als Motiv naheliegt. Sie beteuert ihre Unschuld und bittet Don Matteo um Hilfe. Dieser glaubt ihr und bezweifelt ohnehin, dass Sonia rein körperlich in der Lage gewesen wäre, ihrem Mann das anzutun. Unterdessen bittet Patrizia den Capitano, ihr beim Renovieren ihrer ersten eigenen Wohnung zu helfen.
