The Regrettable Criminal Arrest

黒田康作（織田裕二）は佐々木藍子（片瀬那奈）の話から、霜村毅（香川照之）が絡む一連の事件の裏に薬害訴訟が起因している可能性を知る。その真実を確かめるべく、黒田は当時、被告となっていたブライトン・ジャパン製薬の吉村進社長（大河内浩）を新製品発表会場に訪ねる。しかし、吉村はトイレで殺害され、黒田は霜村に銃を突きつけられて、この件からは手を引いて欲しいと脅された。霜村は11年前の立てこもり事件での妻・倫世（紺野まひる）の死は流れ弾ではなく、狙われたのだと言い残して逃走してしまった。

From a conversation with Aiko Sasaki (Nana Katase), Kosaku Kuroda (Yuji Oda) learns that a series of incidents involving Tsuyoshi Shimomura (Teruyuki Kagawa) may have been caused by a drug-induced litigation case. To confirm the truth, Kuroda visits Susumu Yoshimura (Hiroshi Okochi), the president of Brighton Japan Pharmaceuticals, who was a defendant in the case, at a new product launch. However, Yoshimura is murdered in the restroom, and Kuroda is held at gunpoint by Shimomura. Shimomura threatens Kuroda to drop the case, revealing that his wife Tomoyo's (Mahiru Konno) death in a standoff 11 years ago wasn't from a stray bullet but was a targeted killing, before escaping.
