In the documentary soap, a camera team accompanies four dedicated and sometimes stubborn rural veterinarians in their daily work to help their animal patients. The country veterinarians are Peter Bowen from the Odenwald, who has to solve an eye problem - and of all things in the fearsome giant ox Egon. Verena Uhlmann is busy with cute little rodents, Dr. Tobias Hoffmann has to deal with a stubborn horse that has dental problems and last but not least there is Dr. Julia Thumes, who treats chicken Helga's broken leg in the Bergisches Land. The four veterinarians - from East Frisia to the foothills of the Alps, from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saxony - are on hand day and night when their animal patients need their help in the stable or in meadows and pastures, for example when a cow is calving, a pig is lame or an alpaca has to be caught again if he goes astray.
