Relata o cotidiano, a convivência, as relações sociais e políticas e os mitos relacionados à etnia Paiter Suruí, sob a visão de Betty Mindlin. Entre 1979 e 1983, a antropóloga e economista viajou seis vezes para Rondônia, para conviver com os indígenas. Seu envolvimento com os Paiter Suruí e suas anotações de campo a levaram a escrever o livro “Diários da Floresta”, lançado em 2006, que inspirou o roteiro da série homônima.
