We met Edward Devenport in front of his apartment building in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was sitting with a group of his friends talking. When we approached him to ask if he would be interested in being interviewed, he told us that he had just come from the wake of a friend, but that we could do whatever we wanted. Devenport grew up during the depression and is a veteran of the United States Army, having served 16 months in Korea during the Korean War. After the interview we left Devenport and we drove further west into Iowa.
