Fifteen-year old Lilia, played by Edtya Budnik, has recently moved from Poland to Glasgow with her mum and sister. She is struggling to fit into her new environment and given her poor English, has no way to communicate with local boy Brendan, played by Jamie Quinn. Lilia's mum is also finding life difficult, but help arrives in the unlikely form of Tony, a native Glaswegian in his seventies played by veteran actor James Grant, who welcomes the opportunity to teach Lilia English - with a sideline in Scottish slang.
