Episode 6 - “Futurist Meal”

“Futurist Meal” is an edition from Channel 4’s avant-garde arts program Club X, aired in 1989. It features a surreal and theatrical re-enactment of a "Futurist meal," inspired by the Italian Futurist movement’s provocative approach to art, food, and sensory experience. There is commentary and participation from guests like Lutz Becker, Paul Morlet and Lesley Chamberlain and is both an homage and a critique—playfully absurd, visually striking, and intellectually layered. It aims to explore how food can be transformed into an artistic and ideological statement, echoing the Futurists’ desire to revolutionize everyday life through spectacle and sensation. Includes an early play written by and starring Robert Llewellyn and a segment entitled "Buygones" written by Victor Lewis Smith and Paul Sparks.
