Kuala Lumpur is the federal capital of Malaysia, home to some of the largest buildings in Southeast Asia, and the first stop of Zane Lamprey’s journey of alcohol and cultural discovery. Known as KL to the locals and familiar travelers, the city is full of every luxury you would expect from an alpha-world city. But Zane isn’t too interested in drinks he can get back here in the States. So after hitting up some of the trendy inner-city bars, Zane heads out to the neighboring areas to discover the true drinking culture of Malaysian natives.
Sydney, Australia is the state capital of New South Wales and the largest city in Australia. It is also Zane’s second stop on his search for exotic drinking cultures. While Sydney definitely qualifies as a modern metropolis, the culture there and its surrounding areas is truly one-of-a-kind. Zane learns about the history of the area’s oldest pubs, their approach to local beer, the taste of the wine region, and the culture of the more rural areas. With great drinks, and great people, Australia welcomed us with open arms and full mugs.
On the third stop of his drinking adventures, Zane touches down in what just might be the very definition of paradise, Fiji. Located 1,300 miles from New Zealand’s North Island, Fiji is a tropical paradise surrounded by reefs, palm trees, and crystal clear water. If that wasn’t enough, the island is full of great tropical drinks, unbelievable spots to drink those drinks at, and extremely nice people to drink them with. BULA!
Rome, once the world’s greatest city and empire is now home to some of the world’s most historic landmarks and cultures. It is also Zane’s fifth stop on his journey to discover new local drinks and drinkers. With Rome’s intense love for wine, “corrected” coffee, and friendly people, Zane will have no trouble diving into the local lifestyle.
