On February 11th, 2005, a group of four German backpackers arrived into the NSW Northern Rivers City of Lismore. 25-year-old Simone Strobel, her 24-year-old boyfriend Tobias Suckfuell, Tobias’ older sister 28-year-old Katrin Suckfuell, and Katrin’s friend Jens Martin aged 25. Simone and Tobias had arrived in Australia six months earlier on a working holiday visa. They planned to travel around the country while working odd jobs and enjoying the Australian lifestyle. On the Australia day holiday- January 26th, 2005, Tobias’ sister, Katrin and her friend Jens arrived to meet them for a month long trip. They were excited to see each other and Simone and Tobias picked them up at Brisbane airport. From there, the foursome travelled north to the Great Barrier Reef. After that, they headed south and ended up at Lismore. Up until the time they reached Lismore, Jens described it as the best three weeks. Everyone had gotten along really well…
