Luke Tipple hosts this new action-adventure reality series where 12 teams of two are about to enter the Hunting Grounds, a high-tech wilderness compound, where they must live in primitive conditions for one month in a winner-take-all battle to survive. Armed with the latest GPS technology and a “talon,” which acts as a kill-switch to the vests worn by the hunted, the hunters search four acres of wilderness, sometimes in brutal weather, in order to capture two teams in 48 hours. In addition to battling fatigue, hunger and extreme weather, the hunted teams cannot stand still for more than three minutes without alerting the hunters to their location. Once two teams are captured, the others vote who should be sent home. Relying on their survival skills and primal instincts, the teams form alliances and strategize to be the ones that take home the coveted $250,000 prize.
After destroying the food supply in the last episode, one of the teams is feeling the heat from the other contestants. Luke Tipple introduces another twist by giving one team a game-changing glimpse of the entire playing field. When the Hunt Team makes a surprising capture, emotions boil over, leaving the village stunned.
Things take a serious turn when a team member has to leave the playing field on a stretcher. Meanwhile, after Game Master Luke offers pizza, chicken wings and beer inside the supply station, one of the teams decides to risk it all for happy hour. Alliances are tested and one teammate decides their partner is holding them back.
The hunting team runs into trouble when they don’t catch anyone on the first day. Panicked, they know they must catch two teams the next day in order to stay in the game, but they aren’t sure they’ll be able to survive this round. Meanwhile, one of the teams stays too long in the supply station and gets trapped by the hunters when Luke announces the station has closed.
The village is reeling in the aftermath of the game-changing reversal of fortune that sent one team packing. Clearly, no one is safe. Now, Luke Tipple raises the stakes again when he reveals that the teams will sleep in the wild at the end of the first hunt. With dangerous wildlife lurking in the darkness, the real threat may actually be much closer at hand. After weeks of controversy, a new hunt team now faces their greatest challenge yet and soon stands at the brink of disaster.
The prey teams are thrown after Luke tells them they will start the hunt with the alarms on their vests blaring. The only way to turn them off is to unite together in the wilderness and figure out the secret code. This puts them all in danger as they must stay together as a group, making it more difficult to hide. The hunt team is thrilled when one of the strongest teams is sabotaged and must wear a high altitude mask for the duration of the hunt, making it difficult for them to see or breathe.
The final four teams near the end of a long and grueling trial in the wilderness. With only days left in the game, the teams that survive this hunt will advance to the final three. To survive, they must evade not one, but two devious sabotages that could put them directly in the path of the Hunt team. One team will be trapped, helpless to escape, while another plants digital landmines in the hope of eliminating their foes. With everything on the line, friendships and alliances begin to disintegrate.
