Sam transports Candy to a hotel where he meets his boss Mr. George from London. Several times Candy tries to escape, each time unsuccessfully. People laugh at her pleas for help and Candy is treated incredibly well. But eventually, Sam locks her up in the cellar to prevent any more escape attempts. Meanwhile Mr. Garcia arrives at the Ardley estate and brings the sad news of Candy's abduction. Realizing they cannot afford Pony's Home learning of this, the great-aunt wants Candy saved at all cost. Anthony and the Cornwell brothers set off in Alistear's car, while Candy is being transported eastward to New Orleans. Fearing Sam intends to put her on a ship to Europe, Candy escapes once more, this time successfully hiding in a cartload of hay. Candy boards a freight train when she sees Sam's car, unaware that her three friends commandeered it after meeting Sam. When the train stops and Candy is discovered, she runs into a forest. She collapses from exhaustion to wake the next day to the scent of roses - the Ardley rose gates - and into Anthony's arms. Right then Mr. George arrives in Mr. William's car with a letter from Mr. William Ardley who declares Candy as his foster daughter per the request of the three young men who wrote him to adopt her.
Candy pense qu’elle sera vendue en Europe, mais elle réussit à se sauver alors que ses amis la recherchent. Elle arrive au portail des roses pour découvrir que c’est Georges qui l’a enlevée, le grand-oncle William ayant décidé de l’adopter ; les Legrand et la tante Elroy ne peuvent rien y faire, car l’oncle William est le maître absolu de la famille André.
Il rapitore, Sam, trasporta Candy in un albergo al cospetto del capo della banda; diverse volte la ragazza cercherà di scappare ma sempre senza alcun successo ed alla fine viene chiusa in cantina. Nel frattempo il signor Garcia è tornato di gran carriera alla tenuta degli Andrew portando la triste notizia del rapimento di Candy.
La zia Elroy si attiva mentre gli stessi Anthony, Archie e Stear s'apprestano a partir in automobile per cercarla. Ma Candy viene portata sempre più ad est in direzione di New Orleans: temendo che le intenzioni di Sam siano quelle di metterla su una nave diretta in Europa, riesce infine a fuggire nascosta in un carro di fieno per salire poi su un treno merci.
Notando l'auto di Sam si nasconde ignara del fatto che l'auto gli è stata requisita dai tre cugini Andrew dopo averlo incontrato. Scoperta dai ferrovieri come clandestina durante una fermata si dirige verso la foresta vicina: crollata per la stanchezza si risveglierà solo il giorno seguente per il profumo di rose che la circonda, tra le braccia di Anthony.
Subito dopo giunge un messaggio del misterioso signor William, capofamiglia degli Andrew, tramite il suo uomo di fiducia Signor George, che dichiara Candy esser diventata sua figlia adottiva; ciò a seguito della richiesta accorata dei tre giovani che gli avevano precedentemente scritto pregandolo d'aiutarli.
Sam transporta caramelo a un hotel donde se encuentra con su jefe el Sr. George de Londres. Varias veces caramelo trata de escapar, cada vez sin éxito. La gente se ríe a sus peticiones de ayuda y Candy se trata increíblemente bien. Pero con el tiempo, Sam la encierra en el sótano para evitar más intentos de fuga.
