Buddha-Rajaon Ka Raja(titled as Buddha - The King of Kings) is a Historical drama on Zee TV and Doordarshan, produced by B. K. Modi, under the banner Spice Global.[1][2][3][4][5] The show airs from 8 September 2013 on Sunday at 11:00 am on Zee TV and Doordarshan.[6][7] The programme stars Kabir Bedi in a cameo role as Asita Muni, the sage who announces the coming of Lord Gautam Buddha.[8] The story of the serial is based on the life of Lord Buddha that shows how a prince,Siddhartha became a Buddha.[9][10][11][12] The role of Mayadevi was earlier scheduled to be played by Samiksha Singh,was replaced with Deepika Upadhyay.[13][14] Himanshu Soni is playing the lead role of Buddha,[15][16][17][18] while 2010 Miss India top ten finalist, Kajal Jain is playing role of Buddha's wife Yasodharā[19][20] Earlier, Ashutosh Gowariker wanted to collaborate with Shekhar Kapur for a television series on Buddha
King Shudhodhan tries to instil the martial spirit in Siddhartha and asks him to behave like a warrior. Queen Mangala visits a blackmagician and seeks help to make her son Devdutt win the duel. As advised by the black magician Mangala implants a nail in the weapon to be used by Siddharth. During the duel, Siddhartha only defends and refuses to attack Devdutt. He relents only after guru Kaundilya threatens to disown him as a student. Siddhartha fights and wins the duel. King Shudhodhan decides to celebrate Siddhartha's victory. Princess Yashodhara visits the palace to iron out the differences between her father and her uncle King Shudhodhan. She says that she wants to reunite the two estranged families.
Siddhartha passes orders to free Urmila's lover Baldev who had attacked him. Siddhartha promises Baldev that he will facilitate his marriage to Urmila. An overjoyed Urmila thanks Siddhartha on learning about the same. Siddhartha gets furious on learning that Devdutt had physically tortured Kanchani in spite of knowing that she is not keeping well. He beats Devdutt up for his misdeed. Mangala creates drama and demands punishment for Siddhartha but King Shuddhodhana supports him. King Shuddhodhana passes the orders to kill Baldev as soon as he crosses Kapilvastu's border. Urmila gets married to Baldev and leaves with him for Kingdom Kushal. Siddhartha accompanies them and saves them from hidden attackers of King Shuddhodhana.
angala learns that an astrologer had declared that whoever will marry Yashodhara will become a king. She decides to get Yashodhara married to Devdutt. Back at palace Queen Prajapati learns that Siddhartha and Yashodhara are in love with each-other. She invites Yashodhara to the kingdom. Yashodhara confesses her love for Siddhartha to one of the maids in the kingdom and discovers that Siddhartha loves her too but he is unaware of it. Devdutt gets furious when Siddhartha becomes a member of a royal committee.
Yashodhara gets worried after learning that Siddhartha might step back from participating in the swayamvar. She vows to accept Siddhartha as her husband. King Shuddhodhana gets tensed after learning that Siddhartha had badly injured his right hand. Competition starts and Siddhartha finds himself unable to attack due to his injured hands. Finally he remembers Kautilya's words and succeeds in defeating Devdutt. Overjoyed Yashodhara falls unconscious. Irritated and furious Devdutt leaves the kingdom and decides to take revenge of this defeat. Everybody gathers to celebrate Siddhartha's victory.
King Shuddhodhana issues orders for preparations of Siddhartha and Yashodhara's marriage. Later King learns that Prasannjit is moving towards Kapilvastu to declare a war. Devdutt threatens Yashodhara that war might be the end of Siddhrtha's life. Mangala declares Yashodhara to be unlucky for Siddhartha and kingdom. Devdutt learns that the whole war scene is King Dandpani's conspiracy against King Shuddhodhana. King Dandpani tells Devdutt that if he helps Prasanjit to win this war, Devdutt will get to marry Yashodhara.
Queen Mangala instigate Devdutt to kill Siddhartha during the war with Kaushal kingdom. King Shuddhodhana gets worried when Siddhartha goes missing. Queen Prajapati learns that Siddhartha had witnessed death for the first time in his life and went into depression. War starts with full flair and soon Siddhartha reaches to the battle ground. He requests both the kings to stop the war. After few attempts he finally succeeds in convincing all the soldiers about the importance of life. Later King Shuddhodhana and King Kaushal decide to stop the war.
Devdutt tries to harm Yashodhara but fails. Queen Prajapati prepares for Siddhartha and Yashodhara's marriage. King Shuddhodhana asks queen Prajapati to call his younger son back to kingdom who was been sent away soon after he was born. Queen Mangala gets worried and mentally unstable as Siddhrtha's wedding ceremony starts. King Prassanjit visits Kapilvastu to attend Siddhartha's wedding. Mangala conspires against Siddhartha but fails in implementing her evil plan. Episode ends with the entry of a young beautiful dancer Aamrpali in the kingdom.
The King of Magadh invites Prince Sidharth to conduct Mantrana. While King Suddhodana is extremely excited on hearing the news, there are enemy forces who are jealous and are taking this as an opportunity to kill Sidharth. Queen Maya is concerned about sending Sidharth to Magadh. The prophecy of Sidharth's death by the great sage is still in Queen Maya's mind. She reveals this prophecy to Sidharth's spouse Yashodhara. She asks Yashodhara to stop Sidharth from going to Magadh. Sidharth who is absolutely against the offering of animals is made to cut an animal by the Kulguru. But Sidharth instead releases the animal free and asks Kulguru to offer himself to the gods if he is really concerned about him and the kingdom. Yashodhara tries to talk to Sidharth and stop him from going. But Sidharth wants his wife to be his strength and not make him weak. Sidharth learns about his enemies trying to kill him on his way. Sidhartha decides to take a new route all alone in order to avoid Bandul and also keep the army safe. Sidharth manages to reach Magadh with ease. But, the troop waiting for Sidharth is attacked by Prasanna Jeet and Bandul from two sides. Mangla gets furious when she sees a servant wearing a necklace that belongs to Yashodhara. Her anger further raises when she finds out that Yashodhara herself has given the necklace that was gifted to her by Devdatt to the servant. Meanwhile Siddhartha gets unusual dreams and realises that every dream has a significant meaning and are providing him signals. Siddhartha finally decides to sit in deep meditation to get the answers he wants. During his meditation various powers try to disturb him but in vain. Siddhartha gains enlightenment and is now Gautama Buddha. Buddha wakes up from his meditation and finds various changes in himself. He realises that if he could gain enlightenment then the entire world too can do so. Buddha teaches that one must live in the present and not regret about the past or dream about the future. Buddha tries give knowledge to few kids and a princess and asks them to spread this message and takes leaves of them.
