Heroes, mentors, the giants of our time, we need their reflections to keep our dreams alive. But Dominique Lapierre found the real soul of humanity in an Indian slum paradoxically named City of Joy. He recounts that while it was hell on earth, the people he met knew how to smile, share, hope and celebrate. Moved to write a book about their experience which turned into a motion picture, he shared his earnings with the heroes of the story – built dispensaries, a children's home, rehabilitation centers, irrigation canals, drinking wells, and eradicated tuberculosis in more than 1200 villages. Through his true life experiences of compassion and inspiration, we see how each of us can make a difference.
