  • S01E01 Masdar: A Green City

    The United Arab Emirates – a country enriched by its massive oil reserves – is looking to position itself as a leader in a post-petroleum world. So they’ve built Masdar City, a low-carbon, zero-waste urban center that could sustain a 40,000 person population, 1,500 clean tech businesses, and 50,000 commuters -- while using 20% of the power of a conventional city of a smaller size. The centerpiece of the project is the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, a post-graduate university established in partnership with MIT that aims to be a hotbed for future innovation.

  • S01E02 The Forefront of Robotics

    In this episode of Brink, we visit the epicenter of the U.S. robotics industry, Boston. We start at iRobot, the pioneering company at the heart of it all. Then we meet "Baxter," a robot who's goal is to bring U.S. jobs back from overseas. And lastly, a visit to Harvest Automation which is developing robots to do the back-breaking work no one wants to do.

    In this episode of Brink, we visit Singularity University, where the world's brightest minds convene to attack the world's toughest challenges. Companies coming out of SU include Made in Space, which aims to eliminate the need for building massive amounts of spare parts for the space station by making a 3D printer that works in zero gravity, and Scanadu, which aims to bring the diagnostic tools of an emergency room to a tiny handheld device anyone can use.

  • S01E05 Featuring MC10, Ekso Bionics and Houze

    MC10 is transforming the way we think about electronics and how they interact with the human body. Among their high-performance wearable electronics is the Bio Stamp, a thin sticker that can measure and wirelessly communicate a person’s vital signs. They’re also developing the Reebok Checklight, a mesh skullcap that can determine if an athlete has suffered a concussion.

  • S01E06 Eco-Friendly Fish Farming

    The Aquapod marine containment system is used for eco-friendly fish farming. Founder Steve Page believes the future of marine aquaculture is offshore. His invention allows fish to be raised in their natural habitat – a health benefit that gets passed on to consumers. The large spheres are made of wire mesh net panels, containing the fish while keeping predators out.
