Roku 1648 zvítězil Lord Cromwell v občanské válce proti králi Karlovi I.. Černá zmije krále ukrývá ve svém domě, kam ho ale v jeho nepřítomnosti přijde Cromwell navštívit a Baldrick krále prozradí. Cromwell krále uvězní a nechá ho odsoudit k trestu smrti. Černá zmije se však snaží krále stále zachránit a doufá, že se nenajde nikdo, kdo by krále za nabídnutých tisíc liber popravil. Ovšem nepočítal s Baldrickem...
Sir Edmund Blackadder zeichnet sich im Jahre 1648 als einzig loyale Person zu König Charles I. (gespielt von Stephen Fry als Karikatur des aktuellen britischen Thronfolgers Prince Charles) aus und versteckt ihn vor Oliver Cromwell und seinen Schergen. Durch Baldricks Schuld wird Charles dennoch gefasst, und durch die bevorstehende Enthauptung des Königs sieht der Adlige Sir Blackadder sein eigenes Leben in Gefahr. Er folgt dennoch am Ende dem Ruf des Geldes und stellt sich selbst als bezahlter Henker des Königs zur Verfügung.
As the only two loyalists to King Charles (sounding a lot like Prince Charles), it is up to Blackadder and Baldrick to come up with a plan to save the King from Oliver Cromwell's death sentence.
This special, set in the English Civil War, was shown as part of Comic Relief's Red Nose Day on Friday 5 February 1988. The 15-minute episode is set in November 1648, during the last days of the Civil War. Sir Edmund Blackadder and his servant, Baldrick, are the last two men loyal to the defeated King Charles I of England (played by Stephen Fry, portrayed as a soft-spoken, ineffective, slightly dim character, with the voice and mannerisms of Charles I's namesake, the current Prince of Wales). However, due to a misunderstanding between Oliver Cromwell (guest-star Warren Clarke) and Baldrick, the king is arrested and sent to the Tower of London. The rest of the episode revolves around Blackadder's attempts to save the king, as well as improve his standing.

En plena Guerra Civil Inglesa, el Rey Carlos I de Inglaterra, Escocia e Irlanda está en las últimas, únicamente el noble Edmund Blackadder está de su parte. Blackadder confía en que no llegará a llevarse a cabo la ejecución del Rey porque no cree que nadie sea capaz de hacerlo, pero en cuanto descubre cuánto cobrará el ejecutor decide que a lo mejor debería cambiar de bando.
