Luigi's Mansion is one of those games with a beta so interesting that you have to make a video about it... So I did. Enjoy!
In celebration of the posting of my first video I present to you the Luigi's Mansion NTSC Debug Code! *Fanfare*
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is a great game even if it is different... and has a creepy moon... But this episode isn't about the creepy moon and its creepy friends, it's about the beta of Majora's Mask or should I say Zelda Gaiden? Enjoy!
Super Smash Bros. is an awesome game. Where else are you going to get to smash Jigglypuff with a hammer? Originally, though, there weren't going to be any Nintendo characters in Super Smash Bros. or should I say... Dragon King? Enjoy!
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was the first Zelda game I ever played, and, personally, I think it's one of the best Zelda games of all time. Even though there isn't a whole lot of beta stuff, there are tons upon tons of unused rooms! If you want to learn more about the rooms click this link: http://tcrf.net/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_... Enjoy!
I love Pikmin. It's an amazing game and one of my favorites. But did you know that Pikmin wasn't going to be anything like the final game? In fact, Pikmin was actually going to be the sequel to Super Mario 64! Enjoy!
While not a fan of RPGs, I think that Earthbound is a great game and probably my favorite of the genre. Sadly, the next installment of the series, Earthbound 64, was cancelled. In the end, though, Earthbound 64 technically was released! Only in Japan. Crud. Enjoy!
Nintendo Experience 2013 was amazing! I had a great time playing beta games with other fans of Nintendo. For those who couldn't make the event, I made this video to show you some highlights and gameplay of the various betas that where showcased. Enjoy! Thanks to Nintendo and Best Buy!
Come enjoy the sun-drenched, tropical paradise of Isle Delfino! Lay on the beach of Battleship Island, climb to the top of Erto Rock and stay the night at Hotel Lacrima! Enjoy!
Swing into the world of Donkey Kong 64 and enjoy the unused sights and sounds!
What do you get when you mix Super Mario's platforming with Paper Mario's RPG elements? Super Paper Mario! And what do you get with a game that switches systems in development? Lots of beta elements! Enjoy!
Wii Sports changed sports games forever. With the first Wii Sports, Nintendo introduced us to a motion-controlled sports game. Next came Wii Sports Resort with the Wii MotionPlus. Finally, you can feel as if you are really playing a sport without leaving your home! Enjoy!
Did you ever think that an amazing platformer like Banjo-Kazooie came from a pirate RPG for the SNES? Well, it did and I'm going to tell you all about it. Enjoy!
Super Mario 64 was one of the first video games released for the Nintendo 64, Nintendo's first completely 3D video game console. Through trial and error, developers created one of the greatest video games of all time and they knew this, so Super Mario 64 was shown off many times to the public. This gave people the opportunity to take photos of it's development more than they could of other games, which allows us to see the many changes Super Mario 64 went through. Enjoy!
When Beta64 went to The Nintendo Experience, we got to play a demo of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze from E3. Little did I know how many changes would be made between the beta and the final game. So enjoy this video showcasing all of the various differences I found in the beta of Tropical Freeze!
Who would have guessed that a cute children's game called Twelve Tales: Conker 64 could become the mature platformer Conker's Bad Fur Day? No one did and that's why it came as such a surprise. If those changes weren't enough, in 2012, the demo build of Conker's Bad Fur Day from ECTS was released to the public. So, now we can see even more changes! Enjoy!
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past helped form the Zelda series into what we know and love today. The addition of breakable walls and new attacks have been kept in the series for over 20 years thanks to this game. But A Link to the Past wasn't meant to be for the SNES at first. Instead, the game was actually planned to be the third Zelda title for the NES. Enjoy!
To me, Sonic Adventure is one of the greatest of Sonic's "adventures". And being that this is Sonic's first fully 3D game, you can be sure that there are a ton of early ideas, scrapped concepts, and unused objects. There are so many, in fact, that I couldn't even fit them all in a 24 minute video. So, feel free to check out the link below for even more info! Enjoy!
It's been exactly 2 years since I first posted my first video on Luigi's Mansion, and it's amazing to see how far this channel has come. To celebrate the occasion, I've decided to answer a few of your questions regarding Beta64. Enjoy!
Yoshi’s Island is a game that I hold very near and dear to my heart. The art style, great platforming, challenging level design, and nicely hidden collectables, culminates into one of my favorite games ever. And even though developmental information is hard to come by, as it is for many SNES titles, the vast amount of unused objects left in the game show us many scrapped ideas, modified enemies, and some very strange unused sprites. Enjoy!
Of all the 3D Sonic games, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are my personal favorites. And since I’ve already done a video on the first Sonic Adventure, I decided to finish the Adventure series with a video on Sonic Adventure 2. From the many scrapped Chao World features to the abundance of unused voice clips, you’ll surely learn something new! Enjoy!
Enjoy the full recording of the live streamed gameplay of the beta of A Hat in Time! Also, if you want to play the beta yourself, preorder the deluxe edition at http://hatintime.com/preorder/ Twitch Account: http://www.twitch.tv/beta64
A little while after I posted my review on the Everdrive 64 v2, version 3 was released unto the world. What changed? How much? Is it worth the upgrade? All of these questions will be answered in this review of the Everdrive 64 v3! Enjoy! Thanks again to Krikzz for providing a review copy!
Earthbound is such a unique game. There is nothing quite like it! From Thomas Jefferson the slot machine substitute to fighting a melting clock, Earthbound is more than a simple RPG, it's an experience. So enjoy a look into how this crazy fun game came about!
Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong Country... These games are truly classics. And though the collect-a-thon platformer genre may have diminished, it's now time for a Rare-vival. Team members who worked on many of the classic games we played (and still play) got back together as Playtonic Games to create a new 3D platformer called Yooka-Laylee. In this interview, we discuss everything from Project Dream to the development of Yooka-Laylee. Enjoy! Thanks so much to the Playtonic Games team for participating in this interview! It was a ton of fun.
I remember picking up Four Swords Adventures at a local Blockbuster, but little did I know it was missing a game mode. In fact, everyone who wasn't in Japan or Korea was missing a mode called Navi Trackers. But why? Why would Nintendo remove an entire game mode? Well now it's time to find out! ...or not. Really, it's all just a theory. A theory on a game... A game theory. Enjoy!
Banjo-Tooie is more than a simple sequel to Banjo-Kazooie. No no no, it is so much more than that. Unlike many other sequels, they didn't just reuse all the same characters, moves, or locations. Instead, they added to the original formula by keeping the old moves and adding new ones along with new characters and new locations. And now it's time to see how all this came together! Enjoy!
Crash Bandicoot was one of the first fully 3D platformers ever made, and being that, Naughty Dog had to come up with ideas that hadn''t even been thought of before. So, just like Super Mario 64, ideas were considered and were either used or scrapped. And now, you'll know exactly what these scrapped ideas were. Enjoy!
Thanks to Nintendo for sending me a free copy of Super Mario Maker! Mario has been a video game staple for many years, and 30 years later, we can now make our own Super Mario Bros. courses with Super Mario Maker on Wii U. How cool is that?! But before the game's release, the art style went through quite a bit of change, and now you'll be able to see these changes in full. Enjoy!
While the Star Fox series doesn't appear very often, when they do, you're in for a treat. With the release of Star Fox Zero coming sooner and sooner, I can't help but get excited! After playing the game at E3 and uploading footage of it here, I was told by a number of people that the new Walker mode was taken directly from Star Fox 2. And after a request from NF Magazine and a lot of research, I present to you the complete history of Star Fox 2! Enjoy!
3 years?! Wow! I can't believe it's been that long. Time really flies. Well, it's time to celebrate! I'm going to be answering as many of your questions as I can, both from the contest emails and live comments. Thank you all so much for watching all these years!
When LittleBigPlanet was first announced, you wouldn't believe how excited I was for it! I preordered the game the moment I heard about it and kept a close watch on its development. So, when I had the chance to make a video about LBP, I didn't even have to consider it. I knew I had to. So prepare to learn all about this game's journey from Craftworld with Craftlings to a LittleBigPlanet with Sack-people. Enjoy!
Yoshi is one of my favorite video game characters. This dinosaur has some of the cutest and most fun games ever made, and a lot of this character's personality was first seen in Yoshi's Story. So, enjoy this look at development of one of the cutest games I've ever played. :)
Of all the Mario sports games, Super Mario Strikers (known also as Mario Smash Football) is my favorite. This game has given me some of my fondest memories with my friends. But with such a radical departure from the typical Mario look and feel, there must have been quite a few changes leading up to release... and there were.
Thanks to Nintendo for sending a free copy of this game to review! The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is a Zelda game that sticks with you. It invests you in the characters, the world, and the story. In fact, Twilight Princess is a perfect example of a great Zelda game. So, when Nintendo announced an HD remake of the game for Wii U, I was incredibly excited! But what did I think after actually playing it? Is it actually worth playing through this adventure again on Wii U? Well, I hope this review helps you decide whether or not you should upgrade. Enjoy!
Before Rayman Origins, I didn't exactly play a whole lot of Rayman games. In fact, I really only played them over at my friend's house once and a while when we hung out. Fast forward years later, though, in 2011 when Rayman Origins was released. Those beautiful graphics and amazing gameplay couldn't keep anyone away! But even though this game is indeed incredible, did you know it was going to be even better? After all, it was going to have a very deep plot that spanned back to the original Rayman. I hope you enjoy learning all about it!
Alongside the release of Star Fox Zero, a small game, straight from Miyamoto's workshop makes it's debut: Star Fox Guard. A hectic strategy game in nature, you may be wondering how such a game found its way into the Star Fox universe, and if it's any good in general. Well, good news for you, I'm here to answer these questions for you, so you can hopefully decide whether or not you believe this game is for you. Enjoy! Thank you Nintendo for sending me a free copy of Star Fox Guard!
"Star Fox! We need you! It's been too long since you last had a home console game. Please return to the Lylat System!" Well fellow Star Fox fans, your request has been answered. Star Fox Zero for the Wii U is latest title in the incredibly popular Star Fox series. But with all these changes to the game like motion controls and new vehicles, can this new title really hold up against the classic Star Fox 64? Well, hopefully with this video, you can answer that question today. Enjoy! Thanks to Nintendo for a free copy of Star Fox Zero for this review!
My personal favorite Star Fox title is Star Fox 64. No contest. Why? Well, not only is the gameplay still super fun to play today, the game was also incredibly innovative at the time. It implemented full voice acting and helped usher in a new age of rumble controllers. But how did this game come together? Well, on this episode of Beta64, I'm going to be going though just that. Enjoy!
Whenever I had friends over back in the early 2000s, Mario Kart: Double Dash was our game of choice (that and Donkey Konga). And though more than 12 years have passed since the game's release, we'll still play this classic racer together whenever we find the chance. It's fast racing gameplay is what keeps us coming back, but it turns out that "fast" was not a term the described this game at E3 2003. In fact, "disappointing" and "slow" were common terms to describe Double Dash during development. So, how did the development team fix these issues? Well, on this episode of Beta64, I'll tell you all about it. Enjoy!
Rare and pirates go hand-in-hand. These rulers of the seas have appeared in many a Rare title such as Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and was even going to be the central theme of the cancelled SNES title Dream. But these swashbuckling sailors are finally ready for their own game, and this game is Sea of Thieves. To learn all about this pirating adventure coming to Xbox One and Windows 10, I talked with the Studio Head of Rare himself, Craig Duncan. Enjoy! Link to official website: https://www.seaofthieves.com
I've played Battlezone many times on the arcade machine, and it still amazes me how much they could accomplish in 1980. But our technology has advanced quite a lot since then, and now, with VR knocking on our door, Rebellion has decided to give Battlezone a well deserved reboot for both Playstation VR and Oculus. I talked with the lead designer, Steve Bristow, all about this PSVR launch title. Enjoy! Official website: http://www.battlezone.com
Cartoons from the 1920s and 30s had a distinct art style that, to my knowledge, hasn't been used in video games... like ever. That's why, the moment I saw Cuphead, I knew I had to play it. With its challenging platforming and beautiful, hand-drawn characters and backgrounds, this game is sure to be an incredible title upon release. To help us learn more about Cuphead, I spoke with animator Joseph Coleman, who was more than happy to let us know more information on the game. Enjoy! Official website: http://cupheadgame.com
We Happy Few is a nice, lighthearted game made by Compulsion Games. It takes place in a Wellington Wells, a happy little area where everyone is having the time of their lives... as prisoners of the drug called Joy. You play as a "Downer" who is off the drug and is trying to escape the island alive. But can he? In order to learn more about this psychological thriller, I spoke with Sam Abbott, the Chief Operating Officer at Compulsion Games. Enjoy! Official website: http://wehappyfewgame.com/
June 14th, 2016, the doors opened for another year of E3. Behind those doors housed some of the most anticipated upcoming games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild coming to Wii U and NX in 2017. In this recap of Day 1, you'll hear and see what I experienced as I tell you all about the 2 demos of the new Zelda title as well as my experiences with the PSVR game, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. Not only that, but you'll also see a brief preview of some other games too, like Project Diva X. Enjoy!
We've finally made it to the last day of E3 2016. What an incredible experience! The past two days, we've seen games like Breath of the Wild, Cuphead, Nioh, Worms W.M.D., and a lot more. And though we've reached the end, we've still got more games to see. So, let's see what the rest of the show has to offer, shall we? Enjoy!
The Professor Layton series is one I hold very dear to my heart. I absolutely love it. The puzzles are challenging, the characters are quirky, and the story is amazing. But all of this was originally never going to be. Layton and his apprentice Luke weren't a part of Curious Village until well into development. And on this episode of Beta64, you're going to learn all about how this game was being created.
This game was provided by Nintendo for this review. I first played Metroid Blast Ball at E3 2015 and had a blast! (see what I did there XD) After hearing that Blast Ball would include a campaign under the title Federation Force, I was very interested in playing the game. After receiving it in the mail, I really had no idea what it was going to be like. Hopefully, my experience with Federation Force will help you decide whether it's worth it to you. Enjoy!
If you asked someone what their favorite Mario game was, most of them would say Super Mario World. But can you blame them? The game is absolutely incredible! All the level, secrets, and memories with the game, makes it one of the best (if not the best) Mario game ever. It's perfect. ...well, almost. Super Mario World had a lot of issues during development, and it eventually had to be rushed to completion. Because of this, there were some mistakes you may not be aware of in the game. And not only that, there are a TON of scrapped objects, sprites, levels, etc. just waiting to be discussed. And now, it's time to do just that. Enjoy, my friends!
Diddy Kong Racing… what a game! Great tracks, great music… But out of all the things that DKR excelled at, it’s storyline is really what made it for me. It set this Rare title apart from the competition (i.e. Mario Kart 64). But, where did the idea for an adventure mode come from? Well, actually, it might surprise you to know that it came from the 2nd of 4 major iterations that Diddy Kong Racing went through! So, I hope you enjoy learning how a little game called Pro Am 64 became the incredible Diddy Kong Racing!
Donkey Kong and Sabreman... what do these two video game characters have in common? Well, in turns out that both Donkey Kong Racing and Sabreman Stampede came from a game based around Diddy Kong Racing, which released for the Nintendo 64 back in 1997. And on this episode of Beta64 minis, I'm going link the two games together and explain what happened to both of these cancelled Rare titles in 7min 46sec. Enjoy!
Before Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Paradise released on the DS, there was Rhythm Tengoku for the Gameboy Advance. This game, despite never releasing outside of Japan, received a lot of love including a fan translation. But now that you're able to play some of these exclusive rhythm games in Megamix for the 3DS, I thought it was time to talk about the development of Rhythm Tengoku! Enjoy!
Twitter: https://twitter.com/Beta64Official Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/beta64 December 11th, 2012. The day my first video on Beta64 released. The day that my life changed. I honestly never expected to still be making Beta64 episodes. I really don't know what I expected, but I never expected this. You all have given me the most amazing job! You've let me meet some amazing people and have incredible opportunities. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. As a thank you, I decided to lay out exactly how Beta64 was created, by popular request. Learn how I created the logo, the intro, and the channel itself on the Beta of Beta64! THANK YOU! Also, I gave some shoutouts in the video, so feel free to check out these channels too :) Son of a Glitch: https://www.youtube.com/user/AandStart/ FootofaFerret: https://www.youtube.com/user/FootofaFerret
If you haven't played WarioWare Inc., do it. Seriously, go out and buy it right now. This fantastic game has provided me hours of fun, frantic gameplay that has made me a huge fan of the series. But how did it all begin? Well, it turns out, WarioWare Inc. didn't start out on the Gameboy Advance, but actually the Nintendo 64 (or more specifically the Nintendo 64DD). Enjoy!
Super Mario Kart has a lot of firsts. It's the first game in the Mario Kart series, the first kart racing game, and the first in the mascot racing genre. But with all these firsts come a lot of developmental changes, lucky for us. And thanks to the discovered prototype of Super Mario Kart, we'll be able to see these changes too. Enjoy!
It took roughly 4 years of development and 2 additional years of planning, but it’s finally here: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And on this episode of Beta64, we’re going to learn where the idea originated from, find differences in early footage, and figure out why the game was delayed so much. Also, there's those scrapped spaceships, motorcycles, and electric guitars. Those were a thing. Enjoy!
Thanks to the entire Playtonic team, Grant Kirkhope, Gavin Price, and many others for helping making this video a reality! This video on Yooka-Laylee has actually been two years in the making, believe it or not. It all started when I interviewed Playtonic back in 2015. Since that point, I knew that I was going to be making a video on the development of Yooka-Laylee, but I head no idea it was going to be so long! So many changes were made throughout the game’s development, and it’s all covered in this video. Yep, Yooka-Laylee’s first ever title screen, the original HUB world, and even JonTron’s removed voice, it’s all here in one small, hour and 20 minute long package. Enjoy!
Thanks to Nintendo for sending me an early copy of ARMS to review! Looks like we've got a new Nintendo IP ladies and gentlemen! But can Nintendo really bring in their magic into the boxing genre?? Is it really worth the purchase? Well, I'm here to present the facts and a little of my opinion to help you decide if it's worth it to you. Enjoy!
