The excavation team makes use of Soviet military reports to locate the front-line trenches of fierce conflict between Allied and Nazi forces in Latvia's Courland peninsula. As they progress along the front, the experts uncover a live shell that must be detonated under controlled conditions by an army bomb disposal squad, and also find the bodies of fallen German and Russian soldiers.
