Between the funeral, old films and whisky, Donneil’s guilt starts chipping away at him, and Iain is the one to suffer the consequences. Isla struggles to contain her emotions, which ripples fury within the family. Anndra and his new friend get on like a house on fire, while Ceitidh resorts to doing something drastic to get attention. Cailean starts his own investigation as he realises that Màiri may have been right all along. When Donna is invited to Glasgow, she tells Finlay she’s going to visit Tormod in prison – alone.

But she soon realises that money can’t buy her happiness as she sets her sights on something, or someone, that money can’t buy. Sarah Jane’s life goes from strength to strength until a stranger from her past arrives back in Camus. He puts his own life in danger when Sarah Jane and the rest of the community shun him – everyone but Ceitidh, the only one who takes pity on him. Despite Finlay’s concerns, Donna is optimistic for the future, though Iain distances himself from the family and keeps himself busy working on the estate.
Anndra finds a girl in the hull of a boat out at sea, though her true connection to the island is initially unclear. Isla is keen to take things to the next level with her potential suitor and believes she’s figured out the real reason it’s not moving on as she’d hoped. Donna and Finlay struggle to be honest with each other about their feelings, while Iain gets an unexpected lodger in his bothy.

Jo and Isla get to know each other a bit better, though Jo’s motives for the friendship are unclear – but little does she know that even more trouble lies ahead.

He is overcome by fury and no one is keeping an eye on wee Donnie playing in the garden… Things go from bad to worse for Jo and Pòl as they are finally tracked down. Iain takes a big step and finally admits what he’s really feeling, reuniting with his father to try and help Donna.

Lucas, the groom, is the high-school guidance teacher who tries to advise Ceitidh when the bullies steal her phone and tease her about her new online friend Calum. Isla has sold the house as she prepares to leave Camus behind and go travelling. She reacts angrily to Alasdair’s new girlfriend. Donna returns home from chemotherapy and looks forward to going to Màiri’s wedding, but Finlay and Iain don’t agree on whether she can go.

With Lucas safely out of sight, Màiri has a special surprise for Tormod, only for him to reveal his big secret. Donna is back in hospital and she, Finlay and Iain fall out.
Ceitidh is excited to receive a gift from Calum in the post, but it comes with a nasty surprise. Lucas, with Anndra, Isla and Tormod’s help, carries on preparing the hall for the wedding, while Màiri is left reeling from Tormod’s bombshell. Despite being poorly in hospital, nothing will stop Donna from setting Iain and Angela up.

The story of Màiri MacDonald's return home to the island from which she escaped eight years ago, having left her family and the place, its claustrophobia and its customs. However, her homecoming is longer than anticipated as the emotional ties ('bannan') renew their hold. In this first episode, Màiri reluctantly returns home for a funeral and is quickly reminded of the reasons why she left: the local gossips and a face from the past she hoped not to see. However, whilst on the island with her grandmother Peggy and cousin Iain, Màiri realises what was so long overdue, time together. What she is unaware of however, is someone's plans to keep her there.
