その頃、江月梅は、北京に近い農村で、夫の陸一心の妹・あつ子と思われる残留孤児、張玉花を診察します。月梅から「もう命が危ないから、早く会った方が良い」と言われて、一心はその女性のもとへ急ぎました。玉花はやはりあつ子でした。３５年ぶりに兄と妹は再会し、月梅の奔走で、あつ子は入院します。一心は見舞いに訪れた時、請われるままに日本語を教えますが、あつ子の容体は急変します。
