陸一心は砂嵐の中で江月梅と再会しますが、心とは裏腹に月梅の愛を拒んでしまいます。一方、養父の陸徳志は、一心のために苦労をしていました。その時に乗り出してきたのは一心の親友である袁（えん）力本でした。軍に勤める袁力本の奔走によって、１９７２年５月、一心は突然釈放されます。同年９月、日中共同声明が報じられ、鉄鋼公司に戻った一心は、図書室の整理係となり、翌々年の春、月梅と結婚します。
