中国残留孤児の陸一心は、文化大革命の中で、日本の特務スパイの容疑をかけられ労働改造所へ送られます。思い出すのは敗戦時の満州（中国の東北部）。７歳の松本勝男（陸一心）は祖父や母を失い、妹のあつ子とも生き別れになります。そして小学校教師の陸徳志に助けられ、息子として育てられました。一方、日本の実父・松本耕次は、復員して製鉄所に勤めながら家族を待ち続け、その後に再婚した妻も亡くしてしまいます。
Chinese orphan Riku Isshin is suspected of being a Japanese special spy and sent to a labor reformatory during the Cultural Revolution. Seven-year-old Matsumoto Katsuo (Riku Isshin) has lost his grandfather and mother, and is separated from his younger sister Atsuko. He was rescued by an elementary school teacher, Riku Tokushi, who raised him as his son. Meanwhile, Matsumoto's Japanese father, Koji Matsumoto, was demobilized and worked at a steel mill while waiting for his family, and later lost his wife, whom he remarried.
