该剧改编自人气小说《重生之女将星》，为保家族爵位，何家长女何晏被迫戴上面具，扮做何家嫡长子“何如非”。少年时何晏于贤昌馆初识天之骄子肖珏，后为摆脱家族命运，毅然离开学馆，奔赴沙场。多年后何晏荣归故里，却因兄长何如非回归被家族设计，何晏大难不死后转换身份，化身城门校尉女儿禾晏，女扮男装前往掖州投军，立志拿回属于自己的一切。禾晏结交了温润如玉的楚昭，更是与肖珏再次重逢。可肖珏怀疑禾晏是奸细，处处针对，反复试探，禾晏死抱肖珏大腿，并以掖州卫第一的成绩向肖珏证明了自己的能力。二人历经孙家事件、季阳王女事件、润都守城之战，几经生死，互通心意。
