佟记绣庄大少爷佟绍纬被佟母逼迫娶南洋首富之女李念珍。佟绍纬表明他这一辈子只爱酒楼女子陆雅卿一人，不顾佟母阻挠将陆雅卿娶进门。 佟府大管家杨开泰，其父亲晚年遭佟母赶出佟家，抱病而亡，因此怀恨在心，陷害陆雅卿。让李念珍以为其流产、终生不孕、被佟家合离的一切不幸，为陆雅卿所为，遂与杨开泰联手对付陆雅卿，却也替杨开泰顺利夺得佟家财产。 李念珍懊悔不已，为洗清自己的罪孽，交出杨开泰的犯罪证据，替佟绍纬争回，本属于佟家的一切，让一切回归原点。杨开泰被日本人中田逼得走投无路，开枪自杀。一连串的爱恨感情纠葛，让李念珍最终看破红尘剃渡出家。
