仁宗年間，楊六郎延昭率領宋軍與遼軍大戰。主帥龐龍妒忌楊家將之功名，用計拖延援兵，導致六郎戰死遼境。幸而楊宗保得龐烈之助逃回天波府。楊文廣悲痛祖父遭陷害，行刺龐龍未果，險被擒獲，得衞靈兒之助逃離現場。孰料衞靈兒意外殺害宮中傳旨太監，龐太師於是追究楊文廣，欲定其死罪。王丞相在宋仁宗面前 力保楊家，舉薦開封府包拯審理此案。在包拯追查之下，楊文廣行刺龐龍一案，繁衍出龐氏父子奸計陷害楊家，致使六郎戰死沙場一案。楊宗保與龐龍當面對質，欲找來龐烈證明龐龍之奸計。展昭原已找到龐烈，無奈龐太師以要龐烈回報知遇之恩為由，阻止其上開封府，於是龐烈自刎以表其義。雖然失去最有利的人證，包拯最後仍借公孫策之妙計鍘死龐龍……
