四代続く“女系筋”の老舗木綿問屋『矢島商店』の当主・矢島嘉蔵が亡くなり、その莫大な遺産を巡って、総領娘・藤代を筆頭とした女三姉妹による醜くもし烈な争いが繰り広げられようとしていました。そこに突然明らかになる、当主がひた隠しにしてきた愛人・浜田文乃の存在。遺言状に「なにとぞよしなにお取り計らいを」と記されていたことから、複雑な人間模様の糸が絡まりながら物語が進んでいくことになるのです。
