事件後の昭和の歴史、太平洋戦争、日系アメリカ人の拘留、原爆投下、東京裁判を描いています。太平洋戦争を描いた最初の「大河ドラマ」。主役は松本浩四郎、弟は西田敏行、父は三船敏郎。

NHK's 22nd Taiga Drama depicts the history of Showa following the incident, the Pacific War, the detention of Japanese Americans, the dropping of the atomic bomb, and the Tokyo Tribunal. The first "Taiga drama" depicting the Pacific War. The lead role was Koshiro Matsumoto, Toshiyuki Nishida as his younger brother, and Toshiro Mifune as his father.
