外科医で作家の中山祐次郎のデビュー作である同名小説を映像化。白濱亜嵐演じる地方国立大学医学部を卒業した研修医1年生・雨野隆治が、無力感で打ちのめされ葛藤しながらも成長していく姿を描く。医師でありながら何も分からない研修医たちのリアルを描くとともに、現代の医療界が抱えている問題も映し出す。
