談家一家之主談耀冠與妻談何玉儀結婚三十年，育有三子：天澤、天恩、天平。玉是談家核心人物，將一生青春都奉獻予家庭。視丈夫、兒子為終生財產，對丈夫唯命是從，對兒子疼愛有加。三個兒子在人生道路上，尤其是學業考試遇到困難，玉都盡一切能力去助兒子過關。一家本相安無事，但因玉的孖生姊姊何碧儀的出現，而令三十年夫妻感情受到考驗。玉是因丈夫兒子的存在而存在，但姊姊碧卻是一生為自己藝術事業奮鬥的人，但人到中年後，事業是有成了，盛名是享有了，但卻無親情。於是去探望唯一的親人─玉。碧看到玉一家雖熱鬧，但覺妹夫、姨甥等全不尊重玉，覺玉令女性蒙羞，決代玉教訓冠與三兒子。碧在談家對四男人進行軍訓式再教育，因而令談家雞犬不寧。
