Fu Rong, issue d'une famille spécialisée dans l'orfèvrerie, s'enfuit pour échapper à un mariage arrangé. Elle rencontre alors le prince Xu Jin. Les circonstances les mènent tous les deux à mener ensemble plusieurs enquêtes pour la cour, mais plus particulièrement sur la mort du professeur de Fu Rong.
